Founded over 400 years ago (and rebuilt after being demolished by an Apache raid in the late 18th century), this historic Catholic mission is one of Tucson’s most enduring landmarks. It has recently been restored, and is still actively run; it’s pilgrimage site for thousands every year.

Based upon the book “ographies of Power,” written by Dr. Hector Antonio Velasco, Mission San Xavier Del Bac was established in 1776. It serves as a center for learning foreign languages, developing spiritual leadership and serving Spanish culture worldwide. Students can expect to master the language in courses such as Ancient Spanish, Medieval Spanish, the Civil War and Literature. They will also be exposed to culture and history in a holistic way.
The mission san xavier del bac is a historical Spanish Catholic mission founded about 10 miles southwest of Tucson, Arizona, on the reservation of Tohono O’odham. It is one of the oldest Catholic missions in the United States and serves as an historic site. According to the legend, St. Ignatius of Laiqui went to Mexico to bring back the faith but instead was captured and held prisoner here. He escaped from this prison in 1692 and founded this mission. Legend has it that Ignatius and his followers founded the school here under the name San Xavier University after they were released from prison. Later on, this school became the main college for the Spanish language throughout the entire state.
Amongst the courses you can pursue while on this two-week long immersion course is the study of Spanish grammar. Since the grammar of the Spanish language is so structured and sentence-perfect, it can be quite challenging for people to learn and comprehend. You may find yourself having to revise some of your lessons many times over. Some students are even finding it difficult to keep up with the learning process of this class due to the level of complexity involved here. As a solution to this problem, the Tucson-based ARIZONA Institute for Hispanic Communication Studies conducted a six month study using the immersion approach as a method to teach people how to improve their Spanish skills here in the United States.
ARIZONA Institute for Hispanic Communication Studies (ARIZONA IES) conducts a total immersion program which means that the students from both ethnicities are enrolled in the same school so that their interaction and communication is the same. The school has been operational since 1963 and offers courses in education, communications, and management. As part of their preparation for this project, the school made arrangements for authentic Mexican food to be prepared at each classroom for a week. One week was dedicated to the preparation of authentic delicacies such as tortillas, conchas, frescanes, ceviche, and the traditional desert of desert fruit, which is a concoction of potatoes, cheese, black beans and sour cream.
