Founded over 400 years ago (and rebuilt after being demolished by an Apache raid in the late 18th century), this historic Catholic mission is one of Tucson’s most enduring landmarks. It has recently been restored, and is still actively run; it’s pilgrimage site for thousands every year.

Visiting Tucson and Marque Canyon National Parks

Based upon the book “ographies of Power,” written by Dr. Hector Antonio Velasco, Mission San Xavier Del Bac was established in 1776. It serves as a center for learning foreign languages, developing spiritual leadership and serving Spanish culture worldwide. Students can expect to master the language in courses such as Ancient Spanish, Medieval Spanish, the Civil War and Literature. They will also be exposed to culture and history in a holistic way.

The mission san xavier del bac is a historical Spanish Catholic mission founded about 10 miles southwest of Tucson, Arizona, on the reservation of Tohono O’odham. It is one of the oldest Catholic missions in the United States and serves as an historic site. According to the legend, St. Ignatius of Laiqui went to Mexico to bring back the faith but instead was captured and held prisoner here. He escaped from this prison in 1692 and founded this mission. Legend has it that Ignatius and his followers founded the school here under the name San Xavier University after they were released from prison. Later on, this school became the main college for the Spanish language throughout the entire state.

Amongst the courses you can pursue while on this two-week long immersion course is the study of Spanish grammar. Since the grammar of the Spanish language is so structured and sentence-perfect, it can be quite challenging for people to learn and comprehend. You may find yourself having to revise some of your lessons many times over. Some students are even finding it difficult to keep up with the learning process of this class due to the level of complexity involved here. As a solution to this problem, the Tucson-based ARIZONA Institute for Hispanic Communication Studies conducted a six month study using the immersion approach as a method to teach people how to improve their Spanish skills here in the United States.

ARIZONA Institute for Hispanic Communication Studies (ARIZONA IES) conducts a total immersion program which means that the students from both ethnicities are enrolled in the same school so that their interaction and communication is the same. The school has been operational since 1963 and offers courses in education, communications, and management. As part of their preparation for this project, the school made arrangements for authentic Mexican food to be prepared at each classroom for a week. One week was dedicated to the preparation of authentic delicacies such as tortillas, conchas, frescanes, ceviche, and the traditional desert of desert fruit, which is a concoction of potatoes, cheese, black beans and sour cream.

When it comes to San Xavier de Bac, 60 kilometers south of Tucson, lies the small town of Tulum, Arizona. Known as one of the most beautiful places in Arizona, Tulum features a scenic mountain range on its western edge, with the ruins of an ancient Aztec temple located nearby. Another attraction to see while in Tulum is theto Honorais, a sandstone canyon located in the Chiricahua National Monument, which is also home to some stunning desert views.

Not far from San Xavier de Bac, lies the town of Covid-19, which is also located in the Chiricahua National Monument. This community serves as the spiritual center of the southwest. There is the ruins of a mission chapel located in the vicinity of this mission, and many tourists who tour Arizona may make a visit to this mission and participate in some of the services conducted each day.

Not far from the two Spanish missions, is the town of San Miguel de Allende. This once thriving mining town is home to some of the most spectacular views in Arizona. There is the town park, where, along with other attractions, tourists can view a gold mine tour, an old growth forest, and the ruins of a mission san xavier de allende. Today, the town is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Arizona.

One may find it hard believing that two cities so near each other could be considered remote, but when you visit both of these locations, you will soon discover that their culture and heritage are very close. If you are planning a trip to the West, you should consider spending time in Tucson. The Tucson area is just two hours to the north of San Xavier de Bac. While there, you should also consider making a trip to this ancient mining town. Once you have taken the time to learn a little about the history of these two cities, and learn about Tucson’s beautiful scenery, you will want to return again to study the culture and history of this area.
